I have always believed in the power of the written word.
After earning a BA in English, with a concentration in writing, I spent many years in the publishing field in a variety of roles—an advertising and editorial assistant, contributing editor, freelance writer, and catalog production manager—writing everything from ad copy and local business profiles to copy for company in-house publications and editorial for children’s books.
From the time my children were born, I became adept at adapting, balancing my life as a part-time, in-office employee and a stay-at-home mom. There was a period in my life, however, when I struggled to figure out my purpose. As our kids grew more independent—learning to drive, spending more and more time with their friends, graduating high school, and then moving on to college—I began to feel a void. So much of my identity was happily invested in them, and as they stepped into their own lives, I felt a bit lost, as if a piece of me was missing.
In late 2020, my husband and I moved. Though I have many fond memories associated with our family home of 32 years, I craved a fresh start. After settling into our new digs a short half-hour away, I began taking regular walks along the shoreline, collecting and photographing beach treasures as I went. It sparked something deep inside of me, and I realized then that I was where I belonged to begin this new chapter of my life.
Between 2022 and 2024, we welcomed to the world our three grandchildren, who fill our hearts with joy and inspire me daily. What I love about this age is that these little humans are entirely genuine, free of pretense, and easily delighted by the simplest pleasures in life.
In 2024, I also began exploring children’s book themes—messages that resonate with children and the adults who read to them—and entertaining the idea of creating my own children’s books. Combining my lifelong love for writing, crafting, and connecting with children seemed like a natural path for me to pursue.
Since then, the process has been fun and enlightening, very slow going and, at times, even a bit daunting. However, I feel as if everything is finally falling into place! My first book, Seeing Hearts, will be arriving soon, and we’ll see where it leads.
